In regard to Elizabeth Martinez essay it really appealed to. Some of the points that she makes in the essay I believe a lot of non-whites would agree with. One thing she touches on that I think is important is how America today is not just made up of whites anymore. She saids that America is made up of African-Americans, Mexican, Chinese and other racial groups. In regard to America becoming less white she makes a reference of how older whites don't care for that. I also, like how she states that in U.S. history it is always a white person who is credited for finding new things. For example, she states that Christopher Columbus wasn't a person who discovered America but that their were already native americans here.
Another valid point that she makes is how a lot of whites try to cover with they did in the past to make it apper ok. She says that America was founded on genocide, enslavement and imperialist expansion. She catorgizes America as a nation that will do anything to get what they want. Another point in this essay is that many whites want other races to forget what they did to their ancestors and to just accept it and move on.
In Bharati essay he is a little more netrual in her agrument. She expresses America in a different way then the first essay. She thinks of America as the possibilites that someone can expereience. Because she comes from a different country to study at school she looks at it as an improvement from here country school's. I think she is naive compared to the first person's essay. I think she looks only at what appears to be good in America not what is negative in America. In the end both essays have valid points, but come from two different options. One might appeal to the first essay because their ancestors may have been hurt by America or one might appeal to the last essay because they beliee America is a place of opporunties.

Observation 8
Throughout the movie I noticed various color patterns that reflected the attitude of many of the characters. In the movie before Amelie finally meets her love there is a lot of dark colors and shades. You see a lot of blacks and dull colors. Those colors help to express the mood of Amelie and some of the other characters. You also, see reds and shades of red light throughout the movie. For me the red signified a glimpse of love that Amelie would one day experience. Another important element of the movie was the flashing of the photo booth light when Amelie took pictures. The flashlight represented hope for Amelie and the future that she would one day experience. I also, noticed that when she finally meet her love that their appeared to be more bright colors displayed.
I also, believe that Amelie's character had a lot to do what the idea of the story. When you see her through out the movie she wears dark clothing and has a mysterious appearance about her. To me her dark clothing signified that she was still looking for love and her identity as a person. The nome also had significant role it the movie. When watching the movie it was a little unclear of the importance of the nome.

Observation 11
For my visual rhetoric assignment from Lee Gallery, Erik S. Miller "They Turn on Their Own" really appealed to me. The entire picture uses dark colors and has a old field appearance to it. You have to look behind the old marks on the work to see what exactly he is trying to portray. In the piece of work you see a man and a child. The men appears mentally challenged and reminds me of a predator on other people. He reminded me of the crazy white guy in the movie "The Green Mile" because of his manner in the photo. Next to the men is a child around the age of 3, who looks scared and worried. Her eyes are large and you can sense that she knows that something bad is about to happen. Also, in the photo their are two target drawings. One target is empty, but the other has a babies bottle in it.
This picture reminded me of a child molestation. After evaluating the photo and looking at the title I believe that the artist is saying that some father's will harm their own child before someone else will. I really liked this portrait because it showed that molestations occur in the world we live in today from people that you would think would try to keep you safe.

Observation 7

In this advertisment they are trying to convience people not to smoke or to quit smoking. They show someone who is probably in their 40's whose life is being wasted due to them being in a hospital. It also, looks like the man is thinking about how his life would be if he had not smoke. I also like how they called him "Joe Chemo" in the ad. The ad is telling people that if you smoke that you can possiblie become "Joe Chemo." The ad is appealing to people who don't smoke, espically children, because it shows them what they do not want to become. I would say that this ad would be the most appealing to smokers who are trying to stop and young people. In this ad I also think they are trying to convince people to live healthy lives so they don't end up in the hospital for any illness.

In the Letter to Birmingham by Martin Luther King, Jr. the most vivid form of appeal that he tries to persuade his audience with is emotion. Throughout the letter he wants to grab the white and black citizens not only in Birmingham, but around the nation and show them his viewpoints. In his letter he wants to show white citizens that it's time for blacks to be considered equal as whites. Dr. King uses frequently biblical passages in order to get some emotion out of the readers. Whenever someone uses a biblical passage it evokes some kind of emotion into the reader. I believe he uses the biblical passages to show whites how Jesus didn't dislike someone becuase of the color of their skin.
Another thing that Dr.King uses in his letter is his frustration. In the beginning of the letter he starts off calm, but towards the middle and end his tone turns into frustration and disappoinment. By his tone you can tell that he is at his end and he knows something needs to change know. He also, sounds tired and he knows that his time is almost complete. By him using frustration in his tone I draws the reader in and makes them want to take action.

Observation 6
On my peer review Tiffany revised my paper for me. What she said I needed to mostly work on was elborating more. She said that I had a good paper, but needed to fully analyze and explain my viewpoints. She also stated that some things in my paper I repeated and that I needed to revise those areas. In all her comments were very helpful. I will defintly look fully at what she suggested and decide if I would use it in my paper.
In my opinion my paper sounds alright. I defintly think I need to elaborate more and fully explain myself more. I also, think that I need to work mostly on getting the body of my paper to become more strong. Once, I fully analyze and add more of my opinions I believe tha the paper will be much better.

Observation 5
After reading the Letter from Birmingham Jail and reading the Martin Luther King, Jr. children book I noticed a lot of similarties between both text. In the beginning of letter he starts off very caring, sweet, and almost innonence. In comparsion to the childern's book the book begins with him as a child. Children are mostly characterized as innoncent, sweet, and caring. In the children's book it also, shows his religious side. It compares to the letter in that he makes a lot of religious references.
Especially on the first page in the third paragraph he makes a lot of biblical references. Also, throughtout the book you see a lot of church windows and artwork of Dr. King being in churches. In the children's book I also noted of how the artists placed "White Only Signs" through most of the pictures. By the artist doing that it not only relates to the entire letter, but it also relates to with Dr. King writes specifacily when he states, "Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within it bounds." I like how both bodies of work show whites being sorry for their actions, but it doesn't bring them the similar concerns like blacks.
I also like how he uses the work "tension" in the letter. It is very evident in the children's book the tension that occured throughout Dr. King's life. In comparison to both bodies of work you can tell jus how intelligent Dr. King was. It amazes me how he explains and unjust and a just law and how accurtly tells of independence in Asia and Africa. It is very apparent that for that time period he was more educated then the whites who disliked him.

Observation 2
Chapter 3 was very helpful in teaching me how to analyze arguments. In my past I have never learned how to fully analyze a argument. In the claim section I never realized how many parts it contained. I knew that you should always look for what your writer is speaking about, but it never dawned on me that you should look for their exceptions to their claim. After reading that section it made sense that you should look to see when they would do with they are arguing and when they would not do it.
When the book discussed analyzing reasons and evidence it was clear to me and made sense. One thing I liked and I know will help me is being able to note refutations. If I am able to state why I believe in a certain issue I will be able to back it up with evidence and other people may begin to believe what I write. It will also show that I know what I am talking about.

Observation 3
The first topic I am considering is the debate over sex education. Many people debate over whether or not sex ed should be taught by parents or the school system. In my paper I would argue that it should be taught by both parties, but should mostly be the responsibility of the parents. I would also show the benefits that teens receive from both sides. In the paper I would not only give my view points but accurate statistics to help back up my opinion.
My second topic I am considering is how healthy are diet drinks for people, especially women. Since my major is food science this would be a real good topic. I would investigate how diet drinks affects the body and what would be the recommended amount for the different sexes. I think this would be the best topic because this issue affects a wide variety of people because health is a big issue in our country.

Observation 1
In the column, "You Also Have the Right to Tell a Bigot What you think" by Lenoard Pitts it really applied to me. I liked his column because it was relatable to what I see in the media today. Two lines that I really liked is when he writes lines 23-24. I liked those two lines because when people use the first amendment to defined what other people say, he is saying that not only isn't their observation incorrect but it is also besides the point. I feel like he states that people should be held accountable for what they state if it effects people. I also like how he states something that I believe many people would agree with him about.
If I was to ask him a question I would ask him what he means in the last paragraph. I understand that he is stating that he knows people have the right to say what they want to say but I do not understand what he means when he writes, "But you know what? We all do." Is he contradicting himself by saying that we have the right to say whatever we want to say without being criticized. Or is he saying that we should watch what we say so we don't have to be criticized.
